Posted by : Manish Kumar , University of Delhi BSc Hons Physics (2nd Year)
Our visit to the Inter University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) in Delhi on the ocasion of National Science day i.e. 28 February was an enriching experience, offering insights into the forefront of scientific research and technological innovation. The program encompassed a diverse range of activities, from keynote lectures to laboratory tours, providing a comprehensive understanding of IUAC's contributions to the scientific community.
The visit commenced with registration at the Maharshi Kanad Auditorium Lounge,
where participants gathered in anticipation of the day's events. The inauguration
ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp,
symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and
enlightenment. Prof. A.C. Pandey, Director of
IUAC, delivered opening remarks, setting the tone
for the day's proceedings.
The program featured two keynote lectures by
eminent scholars in their respective fields.
Prof. K Ramasubramanian from IIT Mumbai
delivered a captivating lecture on "The Maths and
Astronomy of Aryabhata" shedding light on the
profound contributions of the ancient Indian
mathematician and astronomer .
Following this, Prof. O.S.K.S. Sastri from CUH Dharmsala delivered a special
lecture on "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat" emphasizing the
importance of harnessing indigenous knowledge for national development.
Dr. N Madhavan, a scientist at
IUAC, provided an insightful
overview of the accelerators
and research facilities at IUAC,
highlighting the institution's
cutting-edge infrastructure and
ongoing research projects. This
was followed by a talk on
"Different dimensions of Vigyan
Bharati" by Dr. Druv Prasad
Soni from Indraprastha Vigyan
Bharati, exploring the diverse
facts of science and its role in
shaping society.
A science quiz added an element of fun and interactive learning to the program,
engaging participants in testing their knowledge and understanding of scientific
concepts. Following the quiz, participants enjoyed a well-deserved lunch break,
providing an opportunity for networking and informal discussions. Out of 194
students 11 students were qualified for the next round. One of the students from
our college DDUC which was me —Manish Kumar, B.Sc. (H) Physics 2nd
year won the second prize. Mr. Dhruv Prasad Soni,
Indraprastha Vijnan Bharati, awarded him with
books and a T-shirt sent by ISRO along with a
certificate.
The highlight of the visit was the tour of IUAC's
state-of-the-art laboratories, where participants had
the opportunity to witness firsthand the cutting-edge
research facilities and experimental setups. From
accelerators to ion beam analysis labs, the tour
showcased IUAC's commitment to advancing
scientific knowledge and fostering innovation.
The visit concluded with a tea break and the distribution of certificates and
travel allowances to the participants, acknowledging their participation and
contributions to the program. The day's events left a lasting impression,
